What to have ready
- The make, model, year and engine size of the car.
- The chassis (VIN) number, printed on the registration card (Mulkiya) and on the car.
- The part number, if it is printed on the old part.
- Clear photos of the part from two angles, and of the label if there is one.
Original, aftermarket or used
- Original parts come from the manufacturer or its dealer.
- Aftermarket parts are made by other companies and are often cheaper. Quality varies by brand.
- Used parts come from other cars. Ask about condition and any guarantee.
- Ask each shop which type they are quoting, so the prices are comparable.
Compare the whole offer
Price, whether the part is in stock today, warranty, and whether the shop can fit it. A lower price for a different type of part is not a like-for-like comparison.
Hard-to-find parts
For older or rare models, send the photo and VIN to many shops at once. Specialist shops often hold parts that general shops do not list.
Questions
Why do shops ask for the chassis number?
The VIN identifies the exact version of your car, so the shop can match the part. Many models use different parts within the same year.
Can I send a photo instead of the part number?
Yes. A clear photo, together with the car details, is often enough for a shop to identify the part.
